CDC changes up-to-date language
On May 24, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed the definition of the up-to-date definition to include the second booster dose. Individuals are up to date with COVID-19 vaccines when they have received all doses in the primary series and all eligible boosters recommended. Vaccine recommendations vary depending on age, the type of vaccine the individual first received, and time since the last dose was received, as outlined on the CDC’s vaccine webpage. Individuals are also considered up to date if:
- They have completed their primary series – but are not yet eligible for a booster
- They have received one booster but are not recommended to get a second booster
- They have received one booster but are not yet eligible for a second booster
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires nursing homes to routinely test staff who are not up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination as outlined in the QSO-20-38-NH memo.
